Dedicate Yourself to Delivering Excellent Speeches Every Opportunity You Get.By P.Vann
Some speakers instinctively turn on a panic button when they are told they are scheduled to speak in front of an audience. Why?
Some speakers turn on the panic button because they have not fully committed themselves to be a speaker. Its called the fence sitting syndrome, in that they like to speak but they do not want to do what is required to deliver excellence.Case in point, some people want to be known as a speaker, but they do not want to practice. Just the other day I was reading a book by Donald Trump and Bill Zanker. Trump talks about the golfer Gary Player as it pertains to luck. Donald Trump stated a quote by Gary Player, “The harder I work, the luckier I get.”You see, a speaker that fails to work hard will forever be an unlucky speaker because they do not want to do the work required to achieve excellence. Some speakers have to stop viewing professional speaking as a hobby; it is a real business and not an easy business to break into. The best advice I can give someone new to the speaking industry is to know why you selected this industry. Second, approach professional speaking as a business first and if you forget, go back to my initial piece of advice.Third and most importantly, think long and hard about the problems you want to solve for an organization and the people they have in the audience to listen to you provide solutions. The bottom line is, you are hired for your solutions based speeches and programs.Fourth, dedicate yourself to practice, then after you practice, practice some more. Perfect practice makes for a perfect speech. Be mindful excellence is the end result of consistent and concentrated practicing of your speech.Fifth, do not be afraid to make a mistake while you are delivering a speech, in fact adding warts is encouraged because audience members will view you as being more like them, not perfect.Sixth, build up good will between you and the meeting and or event planner. What I mean by this is to position yourself as someone who is easy to get along with. Nothing is worst than a difficult person to work with, so if you are difficult to get along with you will not last in the speaking industry, it is a meeting planner friendly community.

Extract BFather’s Day Around the World
Father’s Day is a celebration that honours fathers and their contributions to the lives of their children and grandchildren. It is one of the most popular holidays in the United States and the second largest holiday in America after Mother’s Day. There is no official way to celebrate Father’s Day, but many children mark the occasion with family gatherings that honour their father and extended family. Cards and gifts are exchanged as families celebrate together before ending the day.In the US, Father’s Day always falls on the third Sunday in June. It is usually celebrated near the end of June with gifts for fathers and family activities. Canada and the UK celebrate the date on the same day. Around the world, it is often celebrated in similar ways but not necessarily on the same date.In Australia and New Zealand, Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of spring, which in the Southern Hemisphere is the first Sunday of September. It’s said that these two countries chose September because the time when much of the world observes Father’s Day was already too full of holidays. In European countries where the Roman Catholic Church has a significant influence on culture and society, it has been celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph’s Day since the Middle Ages. These countries include Spain, Portugal and Italy, and in addition to the usual gifts and cards, families also attend church services. In Germany, Father’s Day is known as Vatertag and is celebrated on Ascension Day — a Christian holiday observed on the 40th day after Easter. It always falls on a Thursday in May, and the following Friday is usually taken off work as well, creating a four-day weekend. Many men use this holiday as an opportunity to drink beer and enjoy traditional food.In Brazil, Father’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in August. The date was chosen in honour of St Joachim, the father of Mary and the patron saint of fathers and grandfathers. Children spend the day writing Father’s Day cards and letters filled with words of thanks to their dads and father figures. There must be millions of fathers — and no doubt at least as many reasons to celebrate them on Father’s Day. Even though it takes place on different days and is celebrated in different ways around the world, Father’s Day should always reflect the invaluable role and contribution of fathers to the family.

This is an excerpt from Francis Parkman’s eyewitness account of the opening of the West:
“I rode Pontiac by vile roads through the woods to Independence. Everything is wet, bright, and fresh. A…………………… At Independence, every store is adapted to furnish outfits. Mules, horses, and wagons are at every corner. B…………………… Emigrant wagons are standing in the fields around.
“While I was at Noland House, the last arrival of emigrants came down the street with about twenty wagons. C…………………… It is remarkable that some of these ox-wagons contained large families of children peeping out from under the covering. One remarkably pretty little girl was seated on horseback, holding a parasol over her head to keep off the rain. All looked well — but what a journey before them!
“Plenty of Indians are about here, trading at the different stores. D…………………… They are by far greater wanderers and hunters than any of the other tribes. It is said that they completely awed the Spaniards at Santa Fe.
“As we left Independence, it was a beautiful day. We travelled slowly through the country of the Delawares, with its fine, swelling prairies. E…………………… I fired at a wolf among the horses and missed!
“We rode for twenty miles more, camped, and tried a bath. The water was the same that we have had lately — only worse — quite warm and full of frogs and snakes, with plenty of weeds and mud.
“This morning, all the horses ran off for at least a mile and gave us great trouble to get them back. F…………………… The Indians here shoot at the clouds to scare away the thunder. We rode on and soon got onto a prairie where several rude little forts, some twelve feet square, made of interlaced logs and branches, marked the warlike character of the region.
